TikTok is becoming one of the hottest social media forums but the CEO of Reddit has had some tough words for the popular app, calling it a “pest” at Wednesday’s event.

Comments from Reddit boss and co-founder Steve Huffman were some of the issues raised during a panel discussion about former public policy strategist Elliot Schrage and former Facebook VP of Product Sam Lessin. During a brief discussion about the development aspect of TikTok, Huffman backs down the idea that Silicon Valley startup is learning from the app.

“Maybe I’ll regret it, but I can’t even get to that level of thinking with them,” Huffman said. “Because I consider the app to be such a staple, that it’s always listening, the awesome fingerprint technology really scares me, and I couldn’t come and install such an app on my phone.”

“I actively tell people, ‘Do not install that spyware on your phone,’” he later added.

“These are baseless cases made without evidence,” a TikTok spokesperson told TechCrunch.

Scripture mentions were made before a large group of Silicon Valley investors and entrepreneurs gathered for a one-day conference called “Social-2030” worn by Lightspeed Venture Partners and VC Lessin firm Slow Ventures.

Huffman’s comment judged how TikTok tracks the actions of its users. The communications app was the subject of discussion throughout the event and made while Lessin argued that the app had made many significant new features, Huffman was one of the few at the event to offer in-depth criticism of the app.
